OUR APPROACH
AKME EMBRACES A NEW DESIGN ETHOS THROUGH LIMITED-SCALE, LOCALLY CRAFTED PIECES IN LOS ANGELES, USA. AT THE CROSSROADS OF ENGINEERING AND CRAFTSMANSHIP, OUR PRODUCTS FEATURE ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECES OF ART. SIDE-STEPPING COMMERCIAL CONSTRAINTS, CREATION FOSTERS A SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR COMMUNITY. A MODERN TAKE ON THE TRADITIONAL AMERICAN WORKWEAR TECHNIQUE, AKME FOOTWEAR’S UNEVEN AND HIGH-TECH MACHINE SEWING IS FINISHED BY SKILLED ARTISANS IN OUR HAND-PICKED LOS ANGELES WORKSHOP, WITH EACH STITCH CUT AND KNOT BY HAND. THE RESULT IS THAT EACH FINISHED PIECE IS DISTINCTLY SPECIAL AND GENUINELY UNIQUE.
US CRAFTSMANSHIP
US CRAFTSMANSHIP AND TRANSPARENCY BEHIND WHAT WE OFFER/DO ARE IMPORTANT TO US AT AKME. WE WILL DISCLOSE THE PROCESS, TECHNIQUE, AND THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PRODUCT, SHOWCASING BEHIND-THE-SCENES FOOTAGE OF THE FOOTWEAR CREATION PROCESS AND THE ARTISANS AND CREATIVES INVOLVED. OUR PRODUCTS ARE 100% MADE IN THE US, WHICH IS NOT AS CHEAP AS THE CURRENT STANDARD WITH OVERSEAS MANUFACTURING, BUT WE PLAN TO DESIGN A SOLUTION THAT FINDS THE PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN HIGHLY CRAFTED PRODUCTS AND ACCESSIBILITY.
OUR COMMITMENT
OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO CREATE THOUGHT-PROVOKING CONVERSATIONS, FORCING PEOPLE TO ASK SPECIFIC QUESTIONS THAT ALLOW PEOPLE TO SEE DEEPER INTO CURTAIN PERSPECTIVES AROUND CURRENT SOCIETY AND WAY OF LIVING. EVERY AKME PRODUCT WILL CONSIST OF AN EXPERIENCE, CONCEPT, AND HANDCRAFTED PRODUCT PRODUCED IN THE US. THE COLLECTIONS SHOULD BE VIEWED AS AN ALBUM, A BODY OF WORK THAT REFLECTS A SPECIFIC MOMENT AND HELPS TRANSLATE THAT NARRATIVE, WHICH CAN ENDURE LONGER THAN THE PRODUCT'S LIFESPAN. OUR PRODUCT ISN'T DESIGNED TO EXIST LIKE THE CURRENT STANDARD IN TODAY'S MASS CONSUMPTION. WE WANT TO BUILD A COMMUNITY WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT CERTAIN THINGS OF VALUE SHOULD EXIST FOR A SPECIFIC TIMEFRAME AND NOT BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED. A COMMUNITY THAT INDULGES IN RESEARCH AND UNDERSTANDING BEHIND THE COMPLEXITY BEYOND WHAT MEETS THE EYE. IN A WORLD WHERE TECHNOLOGY IS CONDITIONING PEOPLE TO BUY AT A RATE WHERE NOTHING IS APPRECIATED AND HIGHLY CRAFTED PRODUCTS ARE BECOMING LESS POPULAR, WE TEND TO FORGET THE CYCLE INVOLVED WITH WHAT WE BUY AND THE VARIOUS HANDS THAT TOUCH IT BEFORE IT IS PURCHASED. WE ARE GRAPPLING WITH ISSUES OF SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION RATES, DISCONTENTED CONSUMERS, AND PRODUCTS THAT HAVE BEEN STRIPPED OF THE BEAUTY OF WHAT THEY USED TO REPRESENT, AS WELL AS THE BEAUTY WITHIN THE PROCESS OF MAKING THEM, AND WHAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE CREATIVE SIDE OF SOCIETY. AKME IS DETERMINED TO SHOW PEOPLE THE IMPORTANCE OF LONGER-LASTING, CRAFTED PRODUCTS THAT ENHANCE CREATIVE OUTPUT, PRESERVE TRADITION, PROVIDE EXPERIENCES TO OUR COMMUNITY, AND CULTIVATE A COMMUNITY THAT EMBRACES WHAT WE DO IN THE SAME WAY WE APPRECIATE ART, CINEMA, AND VARIOUS MEDIUMS EXECUTED WITH THE SAME CARE. WE WANT CONSUMERS NOT TO JUST CONSUME, BUT TO EMBRACE A SPECIFIC WAY OF THINKING WHILE CREATING A SPACE WHERE LIKE-MINDED INDIVIDUALS CAN COLLABORATE AND CREATE WITHOUT CORPORATE LIMITATIONS AND SALES INITIATIVES.
